So your horse is a half-pint, well that may not be a problem as some small horses have proved to be real Pocket Rockets. I can remember seeing Mark Todd and Charisma warming up at Badminton Horse Trials in 1984 when I overheard one of his friends shout out:

“You need a bigger horse, Mark!”.

MarkTodd is 6 foot 3 inches and Charisma stood at barely 15.3hh. They came second that year and went on to 2 Olympic victories.

So after all he didn’t need a bigger horse!

Some examples

There are numerous examples of small horses competing in elite eventing classes. This list gives some horses in alphabetical order and their heights along with a hyperlink to a youtube clip for each:

Enjoy you Horse

Horses are horses and you never can tell what will transpire. If you have a small horse he may surprise you.

Hello, I'm the resident writer here at The Rideout. I've been riding horses for the best part of... well my entire life! Over the years of owning, riding, competing and looking after horses I've built up a small wealth of information.

This site owes tribute to my many hours spent in and out of the saddle learning about the behaviours, needs, and quirks of these amazing animals. From basic care and grooming to advanced training techniques, I've honed my skills through years of hands-on experience.
